I think I have a number one choice for college.

That scares the hell out of me. I don't bare well with disapointment, and I fear disapointment here.

I can't even justify the field I want to go into, its a gut instinct, and I don't second guess them. People question you when you say you are going into Law. But genetics just gives you a pat on the back and an impressed look.

Make me explain why. It's not our actions but justifications that make us interesting and worthy. I hate how people don't get that.

Especially in IR, I think this class is going to make me explode. Why can't I have the smart interesting person in my class that I can listen in awe to? Where are the smart people of MUN of my generation? (or am I supposed to play this role? egotistical comment and all) Instead I have a class that thinks the term "Big Brother" is a good thing. I mean really, IR =/= to blow off. Why would you think that? But the insanity of the people, it's worse than AP Govt, and that's saying something. And if you are going to be the arrogant jackass that thinks the world revolves around you and your hummer and that you are the shit, realize that the people you try to assert your superiority over don't care, we just want our educational worth, as nerdy as it seems.

I am learning so much about the world.

So what is it? Does the world view motives or actions
Do ends justify means or do the means justify ends.
Please, disillusion me, I need it.

well if you're gonna get all philosophical on me then... i think the ends justify the means and the world definitely views actions over motives. We pretend we view motives but really who the hell cares? On a much smaller scale, take college aps for example. All they care about is your actions and what you did not how you got there. All they see is you had a job and took ap lasses and they are satisified. Not that you gave up your precious teenage years to do innane homework assignments just because it was for an AP class, as if that alone justifies the state curriculum. They also see job and associate ot with responsibility, time commitment etc, but they don't view the motives associated and the fact that you might have had to put up with hell on earth managers or employees and corporate scum telkling you that kyou're worthless everyday. As for the first one, my small scale example is fencing. In order to get good, I might have to trample over some people, but it will make me a better fencer and ultimately thats the goal. If I was a nice fencer and listened and tried that wouldn't neccesarily make me a good fencer, as evidenced by the first touurnament. I tried and putt effort into it and all the politics involved and I fenced like shit and don't get to go to chicago. So, well anyway there you go. Providing me with opportunities to rant is not the best move, Nidhi. :) But it makes me smile, nonetheless.

who are you?? My name is Cam and I fence epee at the Michigan State University fencing club. Wow, fencing peeps! Cool! And yes, I mean the Northwestern campus in the beautiful city of Chicago. Although, sadly, I'm not going to that competition because I fenced like shit at the MSU torunament. Anyways, I am definitely not as good as you (I assume you're referring to a national competition of some sort) because I just started with epee this year. But I'm definitely impressed with your stats, so good job and ummmm... lets be lj friends now? Okay, sounds good.
PS: Nidhi, how do you know fencing minnesota boy?

ha. national competitions. you jest.

midwest is an abbreviation for midwest high school championships. essentially there were 48 warm bodies for men's epee. the top 20 or so were good. it just so happens that midwest was in chicago this past year. next year it will be in des plaines, illinois

so you're talking about the remenyik, which is the second to last weekend in october? like the 23rd or so? yeah, i haven't been there. but i would die there.

i'm still in high school, btw. nidhi and i met at the summer program at case western reserve univ.

I'm sorry there were so many spelling mistakes with that entry. I am appalled. For shame, Cam.

there are so many directions i can take this.

instead, i'm going to go completely off topic.

the best respected people, the people everyone wants to work with, the people who go the farthest are those who enjoy learning. no, they might not get 4.0s. no, they might not win every award. they will, however, be dynamic and enthusiastic about where they are and what they're doing.

these are the people who end up climbing any and every corporate ladder. not people who know everything, but people who are willing to listen and learn, and apply what they've learned in the best manner they can. if you want to know everything, go sit in a corner with a book. if you want to make yourself useful, go talk to people. hang out in the physics room after school. [that's what i did today]. make friends with people you never thought you could before. i know you're a people person, and having contacts will take you far. not contacts for the sake of calling on them when you need help, but having them so they want to help you all the time.

sorry for being all preachy, but it's true. you're a smart person who realizes that school and life is more than just grades and tests. it's about learning to learn. it's about loving to learn. it's about loving to love.

good luck.

Rent a trip for a day; roll a twenty. Dice the numbers; play the game before you write the rules. Bitchsmack the bastard; bastardize the bitches. Stay out of my cabin or I'll shoot the ducks out of the water and into reality.
